
I completely understand how frustrating it is. Gonna research some independent repair shops in Toronto and see what I can find. Just crossing my fingers someone will take notice. Don’t know who else I can write to at this point. I wrote emails to the top of the food chain at Apple. I would expect that a slew of 15” failures are now happening. The fact that it seems to be a total loss at this point has me upset.Īdditionally, it seems the 13” machines failed a lot quicker than the 15” machines hence the replacement program for the 13” machines. I don’t care that this could happen again as long as it gives me a few more years of usage.

They said sometimes the cable fails at the point that is embedded in the display portion hence requiring a full display replacement. The Genius Bar tech actually opened and inspected my machine and said that the cable seemed fine at the connection point to the motherboard. I believe the recent class action resolution in Canada was only for Quebec residents and compensation was abysmal. Not the best experience but at least I have some functionality. I'm currently stuck using Remote Desktop from my iPad in order to use my MacBook Pro.

New base MBP 16" is about C$3k which I cannot afford currently.

This covers full display replacement and labour costs. Cost to fix my machine is approximately C$1100. Apple repair program only covers 2016 13" models. They said this is a common problem amongst 13" and 15" 2016 machines and some later models as well. Took to Genius Bar at local Apple Store at Eaton Centre in Toronto. As of this past Friday display will go dead if opened past approximately 50° angle.` Machine started to show stage lighting effect on display in mid March of this year.
